With some last minute changes the twos mustered up a 15 to start at Garstang.
Clitheroe started with the kick and as seems to be the norm, Garstang we’re the first to strike. Two unanswered tries in ten mins to wake the men in maroon from their slumber.
Some forward play with some big carries from Aspin (senior) Kenyon and Best ( the beardy one ) made some ground and then the back line was unleashed. Lovely hands saw Luke Rogerson over in the right hand corner to score his first ever try. 10-5.
The Clitheroe defence was tested with young Tom Aspin showing his older brother just how it should be done taking down men twice his size like he was wrestling sheep; and Ethan Best ( some say the prettier looking twin ) showing the skills that caused teams such upsets back in his Colts days. Both players making their senior Clitheroe debuts & both living up to their family names and putting in a hell of a shift.
After sustained pressure again Garstang scored and added extras 17-5 at the half.
Clitheroe started strong in the second half another youngster, Buckley Davis with some bullocking runs, making meters every time. With all these young guns it was down to Pund, Kenyon and Winstanley to bring the average age up a little.
Young Tom Aspin scampered nearly the length of the pitch his older brother in hot pursuit - no time to wait, picked and went powering over the line. Bleasy had found his kicking boots and extras added 17-12 game on.
But alas the maroons had run themselves out of steam and Garstang capitalised : 39-12 .
With five to go some slow steady phases and an oddly bouncing ball out of a ruck fell into Kenyon's shovel hands. From four yards out he rolled and fell over the line to shouts of 'held up'. But the refs arm was aloft and Bleasy added the extras 37-19 final score.
Joe Aspin player of the match - but either Aspin brother or the Best twins could of comfortably taken that honour.
