Clitheroe win comfortably away at Ormskirk

On dry pitch, the first for many week, Clitheroe 1st XV made further progress in their league promotion push, with in the end an comfortable win at Ormskirk.

The first half produced some patches of good rugby from both sides, but the Clitheroe forwards soon got the upper hand, with the team playing some flowing rugby. Three tries in the first 17 minutes, from Thornber, Peel and Chamberlain, gave a lead from which Ormskirk never recovered from. Ormskirk did respond though with an excellent break away try from their impressive fullback. They almost scored a second if it wasn't for the remarkable last gasp tackle, holding the ball up over the line by the impressive Lafranceschina. Clitheroe responded well with another score from Peel, to go into the half-time break with a 22-7 lead.

The second half saw the return of the 'traveller' Marco Vaghetti, slotting into the team at Stand-off with the impressive and flexible Cathcart moving to 13, with Spencer leaving the field.

Clitheroe started the second half well, with Slinger and Lafranceschina scoring two quick tries, before Ormskirk responded with an excellent Try if there own.

Clitheroe scored a further 4 tries, with two scrum push over tries for Thornber, a well deserved try for the impressive Dickenson on the win, and another for Lafranceschina , latching on to an impressive 20m cut out pass from Vaghetti.

Next week, Carnforth visit Littlemoor to play the 1XV, whilst the 2XV travel to Orrell St. James.
