History Makers at Clitheroe

On a dreary and very wet Sunday 15 September 2024, a brilliant bunch of women became Ribble Valley trail blazers and made club history by fielding a team for their first ever league match in a Clitheroe RUFC kit against Huddersfield Laund Hill.

Whilst Huddersfield were strong over the ruck, the Vixens held their own. 2 tries in the first half for Huddersfield meant Clitheroe came into the 2nd half 0-10 down. With some brilliant handling the Vixens almost scored but the game had to be stopped due to a head injury.

The final score was 0-10 with the Vixens more than holding their own in the 2nd half despite 2 yellow cards for Elly Coatsworth & Kirsty Weir.

Thanks goes to referee Howard Lawrence & the club house staff for the catering. A mention should also go to the coaching staff of Mark, Kirk, Jake, Jamie & Ollie for your unwavering patience and support. To those who are injured – we miss you & can’t wait to have you back in the team.

Players of the match:
Forward – Amber Coatsworth (Vertical Limits)
Back – Jess Portas (Voice It Podcasting Agency)
Opposition player – Bonnie-Anne Phillips (Nori HR)
D**k of the day – Elly Coatsworth (Three Phase Contractors) & Kirsty Weir (Makin Lighting)

The Vixens next match is away at Ossett on Sunday 22 September, travelling support is welcome.
