The 2012 and 34th Annual Dinner passed off in the usual fine style last Saturday in the Clubhouse.
Under the guidance of MC Tubber Thornber the evening got off to some controversy, or stupidity, at the final of the 'heads and tails' where protagonists Gretts and Giz refused to yield the coveted 'tails' option, leading to some confusion if not barrage of ridicule from the floor.
After order was restored the speeches began......cue a ten minute snooze?
Not a bit of it. Up first was 2nd XV Captain Bobby Wilkinson, who, after initially mislaying the sheaf of papers that resembled the complete works of Shakespeare, began in his customary efficient manner. Several minutes later and we had only got through a detailed breakdown of the first three games, some players had lost the will to live. Fortunately he speeded up and was soon into his stride. And after many an amusing anecdote he wrapped it up by dishing out the 2nd XV awards.

The 2nd XV Players Player was veteran hooker 'Our Paul' Proctor [pic below]
Well done lads.
Next up to the oche was Club Captain Ollie McEntyre. How could he follow Bob's statistics..well quite easily by slagging off Ralf Rigby for the entire length of his speech.Easy target.
Ollie then presented the awards;
1st XV Most Improved Player went to James 'Troffy' Waterworth.
The 1st XV Players Player went to Chris 'Wadders' Waddington.
Ollie himself was voted Clubman of the year and slightly emotional and damp eyed received some gift the players had chipped in for [or had their arms twisted, Jim] as this was his final Dinner as Skipper.
The evening then carried on well into the wee hours as stories got more ridiculous and boasts got bigger and Ben got drunker and annoying.
Sorry about the shortage of pics, the happy snapper went rapidly downhill after the first two photos. Lightweight.
The fantasy Lions team selection was won by Coach Steve Llewellyn, strangely had nearly an entire XV made up of Welsh persons.
Well done and enjoy the 'James' Places' vouchers.
