Just over a week to go before the 1st Test, and the Lions head to Newlands, Cape Town, home of Western Province. Still with a 100% record, Captain for the day Phil Vickery will be looking for a big performance as the players look to nail down that exclusive Lions Test jersey.
Live on the Big Screen at 2pm, with the bar open from at least 1.15pm. All welcome!!!
Before hand for anyone feeling energetic, a spot of touch rugby from 12 noon. All welcome!!!
History again gives us some cause for optimism....in 1997 the Lion won 21-38; two tries from John Bentley and one each from Alan Tait and Ieuan Evans.
1980 saw an easier win, 6-37, Clive Woodward, Andy Irvine and Bruce Hay scoring.
1974 saw a close 8-17 victory, with London Welsh wing Clive Rees and West of Scotland second row Gordon Brown.[pictured - v Waikato NZ 1971]
As a side note, on the bench for WP on Sat. is hooker Hanyani Shimange, who had a short spell at Blackburn RUFC a few years ago, and indeed played down at Littlemoor for our Presidents XV.
