So the 13-14 season finally drew to a close [in mid May!] , and the sun was certainly shining hard on the righteous on Saturday.
Littlemoor was looking at it's finest, with the pitch fit for kings of rugby, thanks to Phil Isherwoods hard work all year. Nice one Phil.
The protagonists rolled up, some early, some late and a number via the traditional 'Captain's Walk' from the Emporium.
The selectors retired to a dark corner and got down to work to divvy up the players and produced two competitive squads.
In spite of the usual complaints, misgivings and general moaning about selection from several quarters [after all everyone is an expert]. the game turned out to an excellent open nip and tuck affair.
Very bravely and ably refereed by our very own Bob Wilkinson, the game lived up to it's billing and was feisty and hard fought all the way.
In true Presidents Day fashion the score was academic, I believe it was about 43-37 ish to one side or the other, and the effort was appreciated from the watching old farts, friends and WAGS.
Fantastic to see Geoff Williamson turning out - a veteran from Clitheroe RUFC's very first season. Good on ya Big G.
Also for comedy value, Dave Newton didn't disappoint the gallery. Four touches of the ball and four knock ons. Some things do not change!
Big Mike Wilyman was there, lumbering about like an arthritic elephant and Russ Shiels showed the old class he never had when playing at Clitheroe.
Battle of the Smith brothers at scrum half was as tetchy as ever. Short man syndrome? Who won Dan or Gareth ? Anyone's guess.
Men of the Match were Stuart Railton & Mike Docherty. Well done and well deserved.
So there it is and thanks for all who played and watched and drank....
Until the new season 2014-15 then....
