This Saturday : Carnforth - Home & Away
1st XV at Littlemoor, 2nds at Kellet Road
Friday, 8 February 2013By Roger Holmes
This week both teams face old friends Carnforth RUFC.
The Railwaymen have been on Clitheroe's fixture list every season since the formation of the two Clubs. Clitheroe in 1977 and Carnforth in 1978.
Such is the mutual respect between the Clubs, that when Clitheroe had a couple of seasons in the Miller Homes league set up, a pre season friendly was fixed up to maintain the link.
Back in October both teams fought out a 20-20 draw at Kellet Road. Carnforth steamed ahead early on, but Clitheroe nibbled the lead back and were leading by three points up till the last five minutes. A late penalty kick sealed the draw.
It is fair to say that both teams are not having the best of seasons but there is always an extra keeness in the meeting between the two Clubs.
The 2's travel up the M6 to play thier return match. The home fixture was a little lop sided as Clitheroe were too strong at home, although Kev did his best to make up for it in the bar.
Both matches are a 2.15 ko. and of course the bar is open and the international wooden spoon games are on the big screen.
