This Weekend at the Club

1sts at Home, also the 3rds at Home

Friday, 28 October 2016By Roger Holmes

A double dose of excitement and two firsts for Clitheroe RUFC this Saturday.

The 1st XV welcome Liverpool St Helens RFC to Littlemoor for the first time in the guise of their 2nds.
LSH are known as the oldest open rugby club in the world being founded in 1857 as Liverpool FC. They merged with St Helens RUFC in 1986 to become Liverpool St Helens. Noted for producing many internationals over the years plus the distinction of their President being the legendary dual international and noted RL commentator Ray French.
LSH are currently just above mid table and after a patchy start to the season in 3N they have won the last two games on the bounce.
The Clitheroe faithful will be looking for a reaction from last weeks reverse at Penrith. They undoubtedly have the talent and firepower to do the job, but a good start will be vital in front of the home Littlemoor support.

Kick off is at 3pm (the last 3pm ko till March) and our referee is no stranger to the maroons, Mr Alisdair Boyle from the Manchester Society.

Saturday also sees a brand new venture for Clitheroe with the 3rd XV taking the field for the first time.
An eclectic mixture of ancient and modern players will shuffle on to the Ribb top pitch to face Roses Rivals Skipton 3rds.
With several players pulling the boots back on after some years out of the game we can be assured of some free flowing rugby, so I've been told.

Kick off is at 2pm for this game. Oxygen and zimmer frames at the ready!

The 2's have a week off this time.
