A Clitheroe squad took to the road last Saturday, Cawkhill Park near Leyburn was our destination - picturesque home of Wensleydale RUFC.
After a slightly longer outward journey than planned [unlike the homeward one] we arrived at our hosts for the afternoon.
The initial concerns of a fleet of caravans covering the pitch were dispelled when we realised we were on another pitch.
The rugby was of a typical pre season style, with plenty of passes going astray from both sides and a general rustiness, which was to be expected.
The weather was hot and dry and the game was played in the correct spirit. I believe we just shaded it at the end, with tries from; Rick Slinger, Nathan Peel, Stuart Railton and in his first game for the Club - Jordan Cooke. James 'Bicky' Dickinson kicked a few goals.
The coach seemed reasonably happy with the outcome, ...I think.
The meandering trip home was a memorable one , with beer and songs a plenty.
Indeed it could herald the revival of the seemingly defunct 'Yorkshire Dales Gentleman's Drinking Society' - former President/founder being one WP Dinsdale.
We thank Wensleydale for their hospitality and look forward to reciprocating in the future.
First inductees of the season to the Saturday Morning List of Shame;
Kieron K, Jacko, Si Grett, Brian. You all know why.
